Want to learn how to make those beautiful scroll filigrees on so many fantasy gowns? Here is my full tutorial! -

One of the biggest questions about my gowns is how I make my gold and silver filigree. They are surprisingly easy to make if you have a large mold, but many of the larger molds can be very expensive, or sometimes you just want something unique.

Recently, I've turned to creating my own molds from larger projects, and while silicone is not the cheapest material, if you plan to make very large embellishments for projects, it can save money in the long run. Plus, you end up with elements that set your design apart. While I know there are a million methods for casting molds using silicone, this is just my own method that has been working pretty well for me.

Please note that everyone will have a personal preference in the type of silicone and techniques used, so I always encourage you to check out other artists and creators.

I am by NO MEANS an expert at this, and I'm just sharing what works for me. If you do decide to work with silicone, I can not stress enough the importance of READING THE INSTRUCTIONS... like 20 times over. EVERY TYPE OF SILICONE IS DIFFERENT. Some require special equipment to degass, like a vacuum pump, others use a different ratio of Parts A & B, and so forth. If in doubt, contact the brand's support for clarification. For me, I've found BBDINO silicone to work exceptionally well for my projects because it is self-degassing, non-toxic, and odorless. Having said that, I STILL USE SAFETY GEAR.
