How I make my Fairy Wings -

I’m always stunned by the compliments and kindness I receive on my wings, and while I’m still learning/refining my own skills and designs, I’ve been asked to create a more in-depth tutorial for how I make my wings. Here is the full tutorial, along with my ups and downs of wing creation.

Materials

  • Fairy Wings SVG files from ATP Textures

  • Blue Fairy Wing File

  • Pink Fairy Wing File as used in this tutorial

  • Therm O Web Iron On Vinyl

  • 4-ply Bristol Board 500 series 20x30 inch (you will need 3 sheets at least for 1 set of wings) - Blick runs out of this ALL the time and is very unpredictable as to when it will be in stock. I have a local art supply store that keeps a steady supply for me. I highly recommend contacting a local art store that can source this product for you. Keep in mind you will need to cut these sheets down to size for your Cricut machine.

  • Iridescent Film or Fantasy Film

  • Wire

  • White Electrical Tape

  • Black Electrical Tape

  • White Floral Tape

  • Black Floral Tape

  • Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze Spray Paint

Tools

  • Cricut Maker 3

  • Deep-Point Blade

  • Standard Grip Mat

  • Glass

  • Heat Gun

  • Silicone Mat

  • Kevlar Glove

  • Soldering Iron

I personally love using Fantasy film over other types of materials for these wings because, depending on the light, you get a wide range of colors along with a glowing effect. Every color is a little different and will look entirely different once heated. I plan to start experimenting using different colors of the film together and fusing them into patterns in the near future, perhaps adding pigments and glitters to see what happens.

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial, and it helped spark some creative inspiration for your next fairy look! Be sure to subscribe to stay updated on the latest projects and tutorials!
